Only thing i ever used was lestoil or pinesol get at walmart.
Take chassi out &speaker have to get enough to soak radio in .Sometimes takes few days. It will start lifting paint then
use a stiff brush not wire. till its off.

Just think, of the challenge and how it gives you something to do. This will help you to do finishing techniques you would otherwise not be able to develop.

paint
paint remover will mess bakelite up . If it doesn,t melt right away it will. It gets into it . Then if you did end up having to paint it again something besides purple. It would not stick.

Re: someone painted it metalic purple
i use Easy-off oven cleaner the original formula soak the cabinet down with it and put it in a trash bag leave it overnight and usally it will wash off paint with water if it dont remove all get what you can with water and a scotch brite pad and then resoak it with easy off oven cleaner and let it sit a litttle while longer it should take it off if its not factory paint also i use a plastic bristle brush while rinsing the old paint and easy off of it just remember to were rubber gloves the easy off will cause a burning sensation to exposed skin i restore them old painted broken and painted bakelits all the time so give my method a try heres my website go look at restoration section and radio collection of some of them ive done
