I have an eico 315 signal generator that I want to use for aligning radios, my current setup is a bit janky and I would like to know what would have been used alongside that 315 to produce a modulated output. i could just get a cheap audio generator on amazon but I like old stuff. maybe something like an eico 377?

The 315 is modulated. Controlled by a switch on the lower right side.

so if i select "audio" it makes it's own modulated frequency?

Yes...

Manual:  https://bama.edebris.com/manuals/eico/315/

http://www.byan-roper.org/steve/manuals/Eico/Eico%20315.pdf

There you go...

Also, scout the web for a Riders hand book that instructs how to align receivers.

https://worldradiohistory.com/BOOKSHELF-ARH/Rider-Books/Rider-Resonance%20And%20Alignment%20-%20John%20F.%20Rider.pdf

FWIW follow the manufactures instructions for any RF connections. If none use a link, especially on AC/DC sets. ten turns of solid hook up wire #20 about 1-1/2 in diameter, tape up and connect to shield and center conductor of the RF lead from the 315.

You will need a microphone connector and RG/59 with stranded center conductor for a RF test lead.

Be careful never directly inject RF as the circuit could be at potential. DC feedback into the 315 can burn out the attenuator and any dropping resistor. It is common to place a .01mf/630 volt cap in series with the generator output. to protect the generator. a DC blocking cap can be built into the RF probe if preferred....

Do NOT expect the generator calibration to any more accurate than 5-10%, the wave form will be ugly. The distorted wave form is useful for the upper two bands which work on harmonics.  A counter can be used to verify the frequency is need be or second harmonic or 455/6 to BC band and beat to a known station or digital portable radio.

Always, turn the generator output down as low as possible so the AVC in the radio does not lower the signal. Some radios require the AVC to be fixd by a battery at a certain potential.

Any adjust that dose not peak or null has a problem with that tuned circuit.
