I bought off of Ebay a while back a pair of adapters that used 45 sockets and you plugged 1619 tubes into those and they functioned the same as a 45 tube but at alot less expense. I think i bought the adapters and 1619 tubes for a total of around $30, so there are ways around it. Otherwise just keep a sharp eye out for a reasonably priced pair of 45's.

Here's what the set up looks like

The pin-out to the 45 socket will always be the same. The socket in the adapter will vary in connection configuration depending what tube is used for a substitute.
