This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
I bought this at an estates sale yesterday.
It is a Northern Electric tombstone, model C800.. It is the largest tombstone I own standing at 22 inches tall.
It has the original grill cloth and knobs[except one] which I have.
I might have to replace the transformer, but I really like the dial as it had no dial, just a rotating light that shines through a disk.
Quite a complicated system and I am glad I don't have to repair it.
I know it will look good after I do the cabinet and it is a keeper.

Nice radio Dan! You have some impressive ones in your collection. This one should be a stunner once you work your magic on it. I cant wait to see the final result!

Re: This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
I now have the radio all recapped. I hand to take out all three band switches to get at some of the caps.
The transformer was shot but I have another one and it will fit in after I drill some new holes.
I have to do some tweaking and do an alignment,
but it is coming along very well

Photos of patch cords for transformer
These are the only photos I have at the moment.
This transformer had a short on the secondary winding so I have to use the new one I bought for my rogers 10-12.

Re: This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
I now have it stripped ,and it is a lot lighter than before, so I will have to use some light walnut or Vandyke brown toner when I get to that stage.

Re: This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
I now have the new transformer installed and it was working fine.
Now , for some reason I can get the stations but the volume is VERY low. I can receive short wave and my Mp3 works fine with lots of volume.
Next I will pull the tubes and see if I have another set ; at least in the front end.
It will have to wait until another day, but it is coming along.

Re: This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
I found that when I was changing the caps a wire poked into the choke
and broke about 20 wires. A friend of mine had another choke so after installing it the radios worked but it would cut in and out.. So I changed all the front end tubes and now everything is working good.
After an alignment it is all set to go in the cabinet.
I do find that the tone control is quite a bit on the treble side.
It is mostly treble until I get all the way to one end of the rotation, then I get more bass.
I did try different caps in the circuit with very little effect.
I might try a different pot and see what that does.
I will post photos after the cabinet is all done.

Dan, nice work!!! What method of recap did you do? Restuff the old cases, replace with similar, or go with modern caps like Orange Drops?

Re: This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
I usually just put new caps under the chassis.
I buy my caps from ''Just radios and they are the yellow axial
caps. I find that they are easier to install than the radial caps.
There is only one radio that I re stuffed the electrolytic, and this was for a friend of mine who had this Addison catalin radio.
Because of it's value I wanted to keep it as close to original as possible.
See photos.

Re: This is my latest find,,Northere Electric
Today I installed the chassis in the refinished cabinet.
It took a bit of doing to get the pillars the way I wanted but it came out OK.
This radio is one nice Canadian radio, I will probably keep it.
I installed a phono jack in the rear with a switch , to play MP3 or radio
The radio sounds very good with push pull 6f6 tubes.
