I would imagine he sat with a mumber of headliners. There are a number of recordings and performances on Youtube.

He is a pretty good picker. A lap steel is a bit more uncommon that the "Hawaiian" style of horizontal steel guitar. It has a different sound. I'll bet I've heard him play on various albums and wondered who was playing steel. Very Happy
