I found a couple of likely variable caps on the Surplus Sales Of Nebraska site. At least dimensionally they are similar. I'll try replacing the touchy one soon.

I finally got a driver and ground rod for the antenna. It sank the ground rod nicely. Now to get the clamps and conductor and hold downs.

Bad weather out today. Pulled the receiver and replaced the oscillator trimmer cap. This afternoon, it didn't seem like much of a change, but this evening there were stations in portions of the dial that had been quiet til now.

Re: Magnavox 153B Hepplewhite.
I talked to the owner of the Magnavox radio phonograph combination, and, got him to agree to hold it for me while I am looking for a shipper I can afford. The cabinet of the one in Georgia is the exact cabinet of the one my father owned. This one uses a good amp, an AM only radio, and, speakers. The amp I have has an AM, FM, sw tuner, and, the Amp 111H amplifier.
This is the one that needs four 6L6 tubes in push pull parallel, and, the rare changer with a solenoid to reject records from the front of the radio. Sorry for stealing your thread for a moment. I have the original Bass,, speaker, but, he sold everything else to get top dollar. That makes it even harder for me to find what I need to complete it. I will have to us3e speakers for high frequencies because the horn is way over my head.

You might consider getting some later horns to use in place of the expensive ones. They part out Astro-Sonics like swatting flies and the horns are all over the place. They can be had pretty cheap. I'm accumulating parts to make some extension speakers for my Concert Grand and Imperial and Astro-Sonic horns are what I'm going to use.

I got the grounding wire, clamps, wall ties and connected the ground rod up to the antenna system. It has made quite a difference in reducing even further the RFI present. It has opened up about a third again of the broadcast tuning range and the shortwave has inproved as well and that was during the day.

Re: Magnavox 153B Hepplewhite.
Owner will be getting a pay pal payment tomorrow from me for the set.
He's checking on price for shipping.
I have ordered, and, received several of the tubes, including four matched 6L6 GC from Russia for amplifier. I will get the set. I want it.The cabinet is exactly like my father's radio, phonograph. I remember now it had one 12" speaker, and, the horn.
Wish me good luck, guys.....

Re: Magnavox 153B Hepplewhite.
It'll be interesting how he sets it up. Looks like he is all in on getting it together as he's finally pulled the ad. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Re: Magnavox 153B Hepplewhite.
He wants it gone. The lates good news is it is being shipped next week. I think I'll be getting it the following week...
Then, my guts will be put in it.
Still need a changer with a reject solenoid.
Off hand, case looks very nice.
The cabinet is exactly like my father's set.
