AirKing 4602
Hello everyone it has been awhile since I have been on here. I have an Airking 4602 that I am going to try and get working for my brother-in law, the problem is I can't seem to find a readable copy of the schematic. I tried Nostalgia and even with a pair of glasses and a magnifier I can' read it to determine the i.e. resistors/caps. So if someone has one and would not mind sharing it I would be very appreciated or point me in the right direction. Thanks

It is nice to see you back, Frank. Let me look in Riders and see what I can come up with.

Re: AirKing 4602
The schematic is in Riders 15, Air King page 2. You have a six-tube AC/DC set. The model 4602 has octal tubes, while the 4602-B has Loktal type tubes. I could scan the diagram and email it to you or whatever method you would think best.
Again, welcome back. It's good to see you!

Re: AirKing 4602
Frank, I will try to get that scanned and emailed to you, if you would PM me with your email address. I thought I had it, but I guess not. Give me a day or so.

You should have pm'd the address to him. It's too public here.

Re: AirKing 4602
WC,
Sorry for the late response, got the schematic via e-mail. Thanks. I double checked the schematic and judging from the tubes that were already in there this is a 4603 vice a 4602.

Re: AirKing 4602
Hi Everyone,
I have a quick question in regards to this AirKing 4603, as I mention in an earlier post this is a 4603 vice a 4602. When  I  got this radio from my brother-in-law it had a very loud buzzing noise, so I checked all the resistors and they meet or are within specs, replaced all the capacitors and the electrolytic now there is no buzzing noise. My question is, there is a little bit of white noise coming from the speaker, but it does not increase with the volume control. If I jiggle the volume control a little bit you can hear some static and the white noise gets some what loud (Not extremely loud). I checked all the tubes and they seem to be in good shape. Any help would be appreciated. Trying to get this fix for him as it belonged to his Dad.
Thanks
Frank

Re: AirKing 4602
Seems like I had a radio do similar to that. Buzzing or cutting out, I don't remember the details. What I found out was a few bad solder joints from years before. I came to the conclusion that it was probably not a good solder joint and time had corroded it. I resoldered all the joints in the area I traced it to and it worked fine after that.

Re: AirKing 4602
willy,
Thanks. I kinda notice some of the solder joints looked a little corroded. The radio does not look like any body has been inside it in awhile.

Re: AirKing 4602
I don't remember the radio I worked on but the best I remember was that the radio had probably never had any soldering done except at the factory. A solder joint may look good to new solder on the line, work then not work due to corrosion after 50+ years including storage in a shed. I figured the joints bad I saw were from the factory.

Dirty volume control, maybe?

WC,
That was my first thoughts. I was planing on removing it and taking a look at it.

Re: AirKing 4602
You don't need to remove the volume control to clean it. Where the terminals come out of the control is enough space to squirt contact cleaner into. Work the control as you shoot cleaner into it. Use a rag to sop up anything that drips out. See how it works after the control is clean. Good luck

Re: AirKing 4602
Thanks. Have tried with no positive results. The volume control is possibly bad.

Re: AirKing 4602
Be sure to disconnect it from the circuit and do resistance checks on it to make sure it does or doesn't fall within spec. if it does, at least you have eliminated it as a problem. And, welcome back and good luck!

Re: AirKing 4602
Good luck. Although it is tempting to do it in a quick manner, systematically will be your best approach. Eliminate each component as to good or bad. You'll get it.

Re: AirKing 4602
I have disconnected the volume control from the circuit, what am I measuring my resistance from to? Is there a specified range the resistance should fall into?? Thanks

Re: AirKing 4602
Sorry I figured it out. Had to brush off the cob webs lol. From outside to outside connectors @ 2000K it reads 596. When I connected to the middle connectors it reads 596 and decrease as volume control is turned up. Is this a good sign?? Thanks
