Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've done a lot of cleaning on it, and, it is better. There is finnish damage, and, as you can see, the flocking on the turntable is a disaster. Power cord is also by cracky.
But, I think this baby will live again.
As you can see, someone had replaced the original cartridge at one time.

It ought to sound good if it has a speaker to match the grille area. :-)

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You apparently missed it. It's a 12" speaker with a permanent magnet, and, rated at 400 cycles....

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I have a real dilemma. I located the amplifier out of the rattier one I have. I had apparently done a lot of rebuilding on it. Now I don't know whether to rebuild the one I just received, or, switch amps.....Oh, boy.....

That's very nice, Bill. I'd be inclined to rebuild the one that came with it unless it's a total rust bucket.

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The amp from unit is now out of it. It has some rust, and, all tubes ahave been replaced. One tube, the 5Y3, is a replacement Philco radio tube. One tube is a nameless early 60's tube straight from Ja-pan.
Others are old replacement RCA tubes. Tube sockets are tight. Someone had obviously been working on them. All caps., and, electrolytics are original. The cartridge is a mid fifties cheapie turn over replacement which may not be good....
Turn table fuzz is rotting off severely..
Can't locate mechanism from other machine. This one has  a large piece of cardboard stapled inside the cabinet that seems to be a damper for motor noise.. This sucker uses a number 51 to light the red "power on" jewel on front. It was missing that, and, I had to steal it from incomplete one. It's missing a hinge screw for the lid. I'll also steal that. I can't change lids because the shape of other one is completely different. A lot of the blond finnish is gone from outside of lid, and, I'm going to see if I can do anything with that.....
I have to repair broken wood on the back of the case.. The support board with the hinges got broken, and, has a fair amount of damage. But, I think I can fix that. Rest of case, as you can see from the pictures, is still pretty decent, for the most part. It won't be minty, but, still shows nicely. I think this is going to be a very nice playing machine with a lot of history to it. I may be putting some of the remaining original tubes from other amp back inside this one, if they test good...
I forgot to also note, there are three lights. One lights up the red button I so much love on their neat RCA Victor toys of the past, there is a number 55 light inside phonograph compartment, and, another number 55 bulb that lights up the control compartemtnt at the side of the machine. They spared no expense on this display machine to try your new records on before purchasing them.
The decal on top reads "The best artists in the  world are on RCA Victor records".
The other one, interestingly doesn't have that decal, and, also, doesn't have that cardboard stapled inside the cabinet. Of Course, because of it, I may not be able to remove the speaker.....
I think I'm really going to enjoy this toy of mine.
History will live, again!!!

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do they reflock a turn table, apply adhesive to it and dredge it in fibers of the proper length? I've always wondered that.

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have only attempted reflocking once. It came out okay, but not professional looking. I got some fuzz, put it in a Tupperware container big enough to hold the platter, sprayed adhesive on the platter, then added the fuzz and the platter to the Tupperware container and shook like "Shake and Bake." The problem I had was that I had to "pet" the fuzz to get it to look even. It was better than nothing and the owner was satisfied with it. You can buy flocking at various hobby places.

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if a static charge could be applied to the item being finished to get a uniform upright arrangment of the fibers?

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No. You use special flocking glue.
Flocking can be bought at specialty shops. You clean entire turntable of all old flocking, glue, rust, dirt.
Then you put glue on evenly, and, sprinkle flocking on evenly. I re did one of my five watt, Newcomb class record players some years back with some success. It doesn't look professional, but, it's close..

Very nice set. I would love to find one of these but I doubt if I can. The ones I do see are way out of my budget. Maybe one day.

Re: My new toy has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm back to work. Today, I glued, and, clamped the back of the cabinet.
I also looked both amplifiers over carefully. Very carefully.. I'm going to use the one from the junker. The one from this one is very rusty, and, I don't like conditions at all. The old one is mostly finished. Only have a few things to do on it, then, I'll try it. When I'm satisfied it's fixed, I'll put it in the repaired cabinet.
I have a lot to do, and, touch up work to do on finnish on lid.
I believe in originality, but, they're the same amp, and, face it. The one that came out of this unit is very rusty. Period.
It's been very damp, for sure.
Oh. Almost all the tubes from junker are original from the factory.
None of them from rusty amp are.
