Philco 70 Cathedral Empty Philco 70 Cathedral

Post by Bill Cahill Tue Dec 23, 2014 6:21 pm

Well, here's an unusual project for me. Restoring a Philco 70 Cathedral radio....  The first one I got from the estate of a friend in Kalamazoo who died about ten years ago... He had dropped it, and, pretty well busted up the cabinet. The top has a giant hole in it,  they made a new front panel, but, incorrectly, and, out of the wrong type of wood, and, he did a botch job on rebuilding it...
Speaker needs rebonning, also.
I picked up one empty cabinet off ebay not too long ago, with repairable grill work, but, no chassis. I recently bought a basket case rusty one with a rough cabinet, but, speaker is good...
Chassis is a real rust bucket..

I've decided to re-rebuild my friend's chassis, but, putting original cap blocks back in it from bad one, but, gutting caps, and, putting new ones in blocks.. I'm going to repair the best cabinet, and, refinish it, and, install new grill cloth. My friends' radio has the wrong knobs. I have correct ones with wreck...

This will be a long project, but, I feel well enough now to do several hours work at once...
If interested in this project, please let me know, and, as soon as possible, I will start posting pictures of the project....

That sounds good! Don't overdo it, though.

I meant for you to pace yourself and not do too much at once. I know the Philco will get the beauty treatment. Very Happy

Well, tried taking some pictures this morning, then, camera died. I hope it's only batteries, but, I have to go way to Wal ratt to get them. The batteries at Rat shack leak.

I bought new batteries at Walrat. They also had to reset the date.
Batteries were really dead. But, not leaking..........
I'll try again, Wednesday.
