Just got this crystal scanner and it has a bunch of frequencies that are not active in my area. I'm curious if anyone knows a better place than eBay to get crystals? I'm mainly wanting to find the ones for my local ham 2 meter repeater, weather (162.400) and about anything else that is active. It has 2 positions for crystals, a hi and a lo. Not certain what the difference is though. I can't recall the exact frequencies i'm looking for as it's been awhile. It's just too bad a majority of the interesting stuff requires a digital trunking scanner that can run you 3-500.00 now days.
The current frequencies it has in it are: 44.74, 44.86, 154.190, 155.190, 155.370, 155.655, 154.650, 154.875 and 155.340

Those are pretty standard frequencies for public safety 10 years ago. you should check to see what your local frequencies are to make sure they haven't went to higher frequencies. I don't know if radio shack still carries guides that has the frequencies, or if there are online sources. Find that out before you go to buy crystals. Some of those may still be in use.

That's what I figured. I used to have a website bookmarked that listed all the active frequencies for about every city, but I must of deleted the bookmark. I asked my friend that is a ham operator to make sure none were used by them now days, and they are not. As I couldn't remember all the ham bands in that general area. I went to radio shack for some other stuff and asked if they had crystals still, but they don't and I do not believe they have guides either.

I guess the net will be your best bet for finding the frequency lists. Also some government entities and businesses and cab companies will still operate in the scanners bandwidth.

It seems it has a somewhat limited bandwidth 30-50 mhz 148-174 mhz 450-470 mhz and 470-500 mhz. I did find a guy on ebay that might have some crystals, I gave him the 2 meter repeater frequencies to see if he had them. Although I can still use my PRO 38 direct entry scanner, I just don't like to a lot since I have the power supply rigged and have to use an amplified speaker to hear it. The audio has been weak in it since I bought it, probably close to 10 years ago.
