Usually the public waits for the entire infrastructure for manufacturing such items to collapse and scatter to the four winds before such a renaissance takes place.

The problem I see with a resurgence of "vinyl" is that the current crop of recording talent sucks. Around here, one can still buy a pickup load of records for a few bucks.

I would hope a supply of new records could keep more repurposing jobs at bay also.

Some of the folks today doing the repurposing to the records into bowls, clocks will not dare touch a stack of their favorite band like the baldwin brothers or Kardashian girls that are in the bargin bin. But they will look for a record made in 65 still sealed by some group they don't know of called something like the Beatles. "Why would anyone want to listen to something that old? Lets steampunk it."

Actually, I was referring to the stereos and hi-fi units to play the records. I agree though, I get the cold chills seeing a record that has been made into something else. When I was young. a record thad been deformed by heat usually was an accident that had been left on the rear window deck of a car. My sister did that with a 45. she picked it up with a pencil. it was limp as a doily.

You can repurpose a cellphone into a wheel chock for your golf cart. Don't ask how I discovered this.

Re: Record story down in my area of the woods
My daughter makes bowls out of old records. She goes to Goodwill but I raised her right. She looks for ones so scratched they can't be played. She also looks for books that there are too many made of. Some of the books that everyone had to have and now has donated to goodwill. She then makes clocks of the books and bowls of the records. When she sees a bowl someone else made she looks for the band and how bad it was scratched. She will fuss if it looks like it could have been played. So she takes junk and makes stuff people want. She made 300 bucks in a couple of days at a craft fair. She used that to pay some of her college bills.

Good on both dad and daughter. Getting the materials at Goodwill benefits even more people along the way.
