Wonder how "the world's leading consumer magazine" will cover this up?

Re: One Billion Dollar Settlement
Everyone purchasing a new Toyota will pay a portion of that in increased prices.
Looks like GM may be next with the ignition switch issue.

GM issued a warning about putting excess junk on your ignition keys in the late 1960's. This has been a problem for decades. When I was in the auto repair business, I would require that customers leave a key by itself, and keep all the excess crap. I actually had customers accuse me of removing some of that stuff. Some keys with all the excess garbage may weigh a couple of pounds. Can you imagine what that does to an ignition switch when the car is going down the road? But you are right, GM will take it in the shorts for something not totally its doing.

Re: One Billion Dollar Settlement
So, who gets that money? The people that were hurt or killed? That is a lot of money. No car is totally safe. Seems the focus is mostly on Toyota, perhaps because of its high sales volume in the US and other countries. They make cars that are reliable, efficient and cost effective and most built here in the US. We have a Camry and it has been the best car for reliability that we have had. We traded out Saturn with only 50K miles in on a VW Jetta Diesel wagon. The Saturn was a POS. I hope the VW will be as reliable as the Camry. All cars are not perfect but lawyers will forever be there to blame car manufactures whom ever they might be. I doubt the Corvair or Pinto ever got that kind of money for their problems.
We drive a lot of miles on divided interstates with the large pits between opposing lanes in non city areas. We have seen a lot of cars with the dirty side up in the pits. Guess what, almost all top heavy SUVs. No problem with that I guess.
