35W4 VS 36AM3B
35W4 VS 36AM3B
Has anyone tried substituting the 35W4 and 36AM3b? Looking at the tube data sheets they appear to pin out the same and the heater voltage difference is not much.

I have not tried that. How about the tap for a pilot light? I don't have my tube manual here, so I'm not gonna be much help. Somebody tried to tell me awhile back that you can change out the 32ET5, 18FW6, 18FY6, 18FX6 and 36AM3 with the traditional complement of 35W4, 12BA6, 12BE6, 12AV6 and 50C5 complement. I have not investigated that. The "odd" tube complement I just mentioned was introduced before everything went SS, something to do with RCA patents. We had a thread on here about that no too long back. If you need a 36AM3 or some of the other ones, let me know. I could spare some.

It might work, then. Do you have a working parts set you could try it on?

I have some 36AM3B's I might try in place of a 35W4 in a working set. I'll post back later on the results

OK..... I tried it on an RCA 6-X-5 I installed the 36AM3B in place of the 35W4 and it played just fine. But........the 36AM3B got very bright! I'm sure it wouldn't last long, this has to be a current issue.

What are the current ratings for each tube? Do you have a tube manual?
