Can't remember the name...
Hope someone can help out my recall of this one. Several years back I repaired an 11 tube chassis for a friend, who was refinishing the cabinet. It had been his grandfather's radio. The radio had a dial that was exquisite, the nicest feature of the whole radio! Two convex pieces of glass, the outer one clear, dial pointer in between, and the inner looked like gold plated. The inner had a hole in the center for the shaft supporting the tuning pointer. That's as close to unobtanium as I ever had to work with! Needless to say, I disassembled and carefully packed away the glass while I worked on the chassis. I keep wanting to say it was a Crosley, but have not been able to find a pic of one that looks like it. Does it ring a bell, anyone?

The Crosley "Fiver" dial comes to mind.

Re: Can't remember the name...
Crosley didn't build a lot of high tube count consoles. I don't recall them using a "sandwiched" glass dial system, but I do think Wildcat is on the right track.
Do either one of these ring a bell??

Re: Can't remember the name...
Thanks WC and Dr. Radio. Following up on the Fiver, I found the photo of the model 1117 Super11's dial. The second link is the one! I think that particular chassis may be more deluxe than the one I worked on, but the dial sure looks right! IIRC it did have the eye tube.

That 1117 was the one for sure. I mistakenly looked at a 1217 schematic, and it was more complex than the one I worked on.

I have a Crosley 11 tube Prestotune in boxes in my garage but I don't remember the model number or what the dial looks like. I traded an AMI C jukebox for it a few years ago.
