Chassis up rebuild on Stewart Warner tabletop 5 tube
Chassis up rebuild on Stewart Warner tabletop 5 tube
Just some pictures of a “chassis up” restoration of my Stewart Warner model 9160K, 5 tube. Circa 1952.
As found…well, I took the chassis out of the cabinet here... Speaker is hopeless…one IF can had a wire not soldered and a strange little RF choke added at some point.

Get a laugh out of the one oversized IF can with the shield partially held on by an excess of baling wire:

Gutted like a fish. The chassis stamping needs cleaned up and started over with:

New sockets:

I knew I kept those IF cans from a scrapped Westinghouse for a reason:

Filament circuit test:

Making vintage looking resistors and capacitors out of new ones:

Almost done except for the front end: (Yes, all thes capacitors and resistors are new.)

New back panel made from a masonite clipboard:

New paint: (They came from the factory painted in different colors over the dark brown bakelite.)
Took a while, but I was able to match the old color pretty closely.

New speaker, new tubes, new most things and the rest cleaned and tested…Sounds good…loud and clear!

Re: Chassis up rebuild on Stewart Warner tabletop 5 tube
Thank you guys!
75...The back are clear water slide decals run through the printer. Clear laquer on the back panel so they lay down right. Solvaset applied to make them lay down properly, too, and then flat clear laquer over top. (Hobby store stuff for plastic modelers and model railroaders.)
cheers,
Rob

Gotta love the simple old AA5...More time restoring, less time troubleshooting!Resistance is Futile wrote:Now That's what I'm Talking about, Radios!
