Interesting, when you consider average wage and prices in the '50s, how much a new radio, TV, or mechanical appliance actually cost the average consumer back in the day. No wonder the repair service industry was booming.

Nice calculator. So a $42 AM/FM tabletop radio was like paying $400. Definitely worth taking to the radio man when it quit working.

Those ads are just as captivating now as they were when I was little. I loved catalogs, they were a old reliable rainy day activity! I'll even get one off ebay on occasion when the price is right.
