Why do new tv sets (those made in the last 25 years, or so) have no vertical hold, horizontal hold, focus or fine tuning controls? My theory is that those controls were designed to compensate for the drifting of components, weak tubes, etc. With the introduction of transistorized components, these controls were no longer necessary. What say you experts out there?

It's a matter of being cheaper to put in resistors to get the desired adjustments than wiring in controls.

The oscillators are more stable now.
It was my understanding that these user controls are now kept in check with computer chip's and IC's so no adjustments were needed.
