I try to aim the camera so it will not go out of sync. I'm successful half the time.
I will be finnishing adjustments tommorrow. Right now I have a new project on the bench. A wrecked, rusted Edison Gem Cylinder phonograph.
I'm calling this tv done.

Tonight I plugged it back in. Finnished adjustments just in time for vert. to go back to square one. It's jumping again. I'll have to take set back apart.
Well, that's been my luck today.
I was going to connect a vcr tonight. I've changed my mind.

Every time you get something like this going , you should leave it out of the cabinet and run it for several trial periods . Did you replace all the caps in this ?

I'm a firm believer in cap replacement, and, they were all replaced long before this. As for running it, I guess you didn't see. I ran it for three days periodically, any where from fifteen min. to an hour each time.
I've done that for years because that's when they are mos open to break down.

Bill i run them longer . An hour to 3 hours then go over and start tapping & picking on tubes & parts . There is usually no hurry with these .
My predicta is coming along . I replaced only the small caps on the circuit board . All filters are still good . Its back in its case ( without screws ) till it gets tested for a few more days . An old tv set here will not be ready to go back together for at least 2 weeks after its been serviced up .

That's standard tech work, and, I agree on it. That's what I did, as always. I ran it for three days on the bench that way, and, it wouldn't act up.
Last night I re cleanned vert. height control, and, was going to try the set. By accident, I discovered that one of my new caps isn't properly soldered on one end. I'll have to take it apart, and, re soder. Nah. Don't get your hopes up. It's in middle of chassis, and, vert. circuit is in front corner.
But, I don't want any poor connections.
Don't know how it happenned, but, one out of manny isn't that bad.
Since I've been busy on the RCA project, I had put this one asside.

Tommorrow I will finally get back on Admiral, and, take chassis out, and, solder new cap better on loose end. I will also make sure I'm happy with picture tube I have in it, then, try it again.
Can't put it on bench if it needs it yet, because I have the beast up there. But, it would be nice if that would fix my problem.
I'll let you know..........

19&41 wrote:It's looking good, but since you have MEtv, Raymond Burr would look closer to period. You do a mighty good job of getting the camera to sync up. Does it take a few trys to get the picture, or do you have a trick to get a good picture?
The trick is to aim the camera a little off so the off sync doesn't get caught. Not quite square on front.

Well, I've got good, and, bad news. I found a good used 10FP4 tube, and, installed that. That increased the brightness, and, contrast, somewhat, but, it has face scratches, and, a bit of ion burn. On full brightness, nearly not noticable.
Vert. appears to be working again.
That Loose cap was just on a tie point on damper tube socket, and, the entire pin moves. I did find another cap with a slightly loose joint, and, fixed that. But, that was on video amp tube.
Now, for the bad news..........
I now have agc problems. On cable, slight buzz on sound, and, horizontal wants to tear up, vert. barely stable.
On dvd, Sound extremely loud buzz, horizontal completely tears up, and,, vert. will not stabilize at all.
Back to the drawing board.......
I'll work on it when I can.

It could be simple, like a bad tube, but, I'm in no hurry. I'm burned out, hurting, and, tired.
I'll get on it as soon as possible.

It is the RCA.OH, darn. I posted to the wrong set. I meant to put that on the RCA. I'll delete it.

Most of the carriers on vcrs are offset a little so the old TVs don't sync up very good or exhibit AGC problems. Not the TVs fault, try adjusting the fine tuning or sometimes remove one wire from the antenna balun will take care of it. You may also try another vcr. I know it sounds a little weird but give it a try. We did a mid fifties display one Christmas and tried 3 vcrs before we found one that worked.

Re: Admiral 20X122 is now finished project! Pictures attached..
It's the tv, because I connected it back to cable, and, when it was on the bench on cable it was fine, but, in living room on cable it looked awful, and, wouldn't sync at all.
Horizontal wanted to tear in half, and, vertical just kept rolling. I also had a loud audio buzz with the dvd player, and, on direct cable, still had a fairly loud buzz.
Something is wrong. I have been busy with other projects, so, it's on the back burner for now. But, please keep the ideas coming.
Thanks for the help.
