Super Star.. Anybody know what this is?
I'm not sure what this is.. I picked it up from my friend who picked it up from an auction. I tried researching it but couldn't find anything. Any ideas? Thanks, Joseph

I wonder if it is a amp or I think they were called Linears when I worked on CBs. It could be for CBs or hams maybe?

If that is what I think it is, it is a linear amp used for high wattage transmission on cb radio. These things are illegal, and, I would reccommend against ever using it. Besides, it would now need rebuilding anyway.
I'd use it as a shelf queen.

Re: Super Star.. Anybody know what this is?
It looks like a home brew linear amplifier using maybe 2- 6146 final tubes or equal sweep TV tubes. Probably used on CB 11 meters. Should be able to use on 10 meter ham bands .See they attached a low pass filter on the back to use inline with antenna. I am sure they interfered with neighbor's tv. If tubes and transformer are still good they could be sold for parts to hams. Illegal on CB freqs. Will need to be retuned for 10 meters. Makes a nice display anyway. Thanks for sharing

I agree with the guys ... Looks like a ( well built) amplifier for CB radio use ... Tube line-up looks like 6LF6/6JE6 type sweep tubes maybe? ( those can get quite pricey).
Those tubes can self destruct real quick if the user doesn't tune these amps quickly!
I'd display it on a shelf like others said ... Nice piece of CB history though.

Years ago, living in Tennessee, I had a mobile version called a Texas Star, it was a good one! Hang on to it, it's a good bit of nostalgia.

Definintly a linear CB amp.
I've got a no-name linear from my CB days.
Worked great, annoyed the neighbors, too!

Definitely a CB linear amp, and definitely illegal, which is why there is no name on it. They are well built because there was a great demand to produce a large number of them for truckers.

Truckers used to call them foot warmers, often located under their seats. This was for a base station of some type, perhaps a truck stop where they could communicate with truckers or perhaps a base station at a home with some lonesome person who was into CB DXing? It is after all, an A/C powered unit.

It looks like maybe for 6 meters from the size of the tank coil and tunning caps! It looks to be well built though. it looks like maybe a Ham may have built it! Deffinetly home built!

Re: Super Star.. Anybody know what this is?
I'd disagree about it being for 6 meters because the cut off on the filter is 30 MHZ.
I'd agree more that it is an illegal CB amplifier because the final tubes in the amp won't put out that much power and suspect it is driven by a low wattage rig...like a 5 watt CB. JMO

Re: Super Star.. Anybody know what this is?
I stand corrected on the frequency of the filter. Thanks for correcting the post.
