Adjusting IF transformers
Adjusting IF transformers
I picked up a set of input and output 456kH IF trans. for my first three tube superhet project. Is there a way to test them before installation? Thanks, Will

Re: Adjusting IF transformers
Are these the small I F's, or, large? What brand?
If they are the small ones the only way is in a working set. If you get dc voltage on the secondary, I guarantee they aren't working right.
May we see pictures?

Re: Adjusting IF transformers
Hi Bill. These are 1.5 square x 3.75 tall no name. 456kc input printed on one and 456kc output on the other. Four leads each, light green-tan show continuity and dark green-black show continuity. Two trimmer caps on top of each. All leads exit from bottom except input dark green exits top on input. Sorry no camera at this time but soon. I have tried to test them with signal generator injected with audio tone. With 456kH from gen. in I was able to pick up 456kH out on freq. counter with the tone but only on the output transformer. I don't think thats the right way to test them but I try to figure stuff out first.
What say you my good man?

Re: Adjusting IF transformers
These are probably good, but, used with tubes with grid caps.
The green wire on top goes to grid cap of tube.
Thanks.

Re: Adjusting IF transformers
Thanks Bill, I agree. And if they don't work for some reason I'll swap them out with another set. As the fomous Govenor of CA said, "I'll be back". Will
