Rheem Califone 1450 wow and flutter issues
I uploaded a video to you of this Califone unit that has major wow and flutter issues. Any ideas on what is wrong?

First make sure your playback arm is set for the right weight in grams. Second if that doesn't help then remove the platter and check that the spindle has oil on it and the platter bearing. Then check the motor for lack of grease or oil in the bearings. The last thing would be Idler arm and idler wheel. The rubber may be hardened and need to be addressed.

These Califones have no bearing. Idler wheel is 6 months old. Lubed motor already. Tonearm weight is pre-set by a non-adjustable spring. Platter spins freely.

Does the idler wheel turn? If it does there is a bearing or bushing of some kind. Without one you have a post. It doesn't matter if the idler wheel is 6 seconds old, it can be hard or contaminated. Try cleaning it and the inside of the platter rim with alcohol or lacquer thinner. That will remove any possible contaminants that could make the platter rotate unevenly (wow and flutter). Was the idler NOS? If so, it could be 40 years old. Is it newly rebuilt? If so, it may have gotten contaminated. Tonearm weight still needs to be checked by weighing it accurately, not by guessing. Ditto the platter spinning "freely". Freely as compared to what? The idler wheel that "has no bearing."? How did you "lube" the motor? Did you completely disassemble it? Did you clean the bushings out with lacquer thinner to be sure they were clean? What did you use to oil the motor ?. Turbine oil is recommended if you can get it. Cover all the bases, thoroughly, and you will find and correct the trouble. Good luck......

The bearing(s) maybe bronze sleeve bearings, rather than roller bearings, smaller motors the same.
