Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
This poor unfortunate radio has been owned by me for 17 years. At one time I had it playing. Not anymore. Ratts peed on it, and, ate wirring. The plastic pointer, knobs, and, push buttons rotted, and, warped. The dial got scratched by the rats.
The case is nice, and, I had speaker re coned at that time.
Can someone find me the schematic, and, parts to ressurect it?
Thanks.
Bill Cahill

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
I'm working on the same set. I acquired it in in the early '90's, after someone restored it. I just haven't played it that much over the years, but now I have more time to tinker. I think I have a gas leak problem as the unit starts strong and then fizzles. Anyway, there are many 11S-474 fans out there. The sound is top of the line.

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
Maybe you guys can give me some info. I have an opportunity to buy a 11S474. The cabinet is in poor shape but that is not a problem, I can fix that. The guy says the radio doesn't work. From the pictures he sent it doesn't look like anyone has messed with it.
I'm looking for something that looks nice and has great sound. I just finished the cabinet for a 10S464 and once the radio shop had the electronics back in and working it sounds great.
Will the 11S464 have comparable sound? Better or worse? He is asking $60 for it, too high or low?
I'm not a collector (yet). This will be my first purchase and restoration for myself.

10S464 and 11S474 are the same except for the detector - 1st audio stage. 10S464 uses a 6Q7, 11S474 uses a 6J5 as a detector followed by a 6F5 audio amp. Schematic for both is found in Rider 11-24, 25 and 30

If anything, I think the 11S 474 sounds better.

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
Hey Bill did you get these parts? If not what do you need now? I have an old Zenith in my workshop loft that was left here about 15 years ago. A older man had it and it wasn't worth fixing. I called him to pick it up then and he said he would come get it. I never could get ahold of him again. He was in bad shape then and I figure he has passed away by now. I have had it for 15 years now and if he was still around he would be in his mid to late 90s.
I can look and see what the model is and if it has those parts. If it does they are yours.

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
I had to junk mine because the cabinet was filled with termites, and, they had done a lot of damage. I might still have chassis. Do you have a restorable cabinet? Got any pictures???

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
The cabinet was shot the best I remember. I think I needed to find a cabinet, rebuild the radio, replace the wire and find a transformer. I put it up in the loft and best I remember the case was coming apart the last time I saw it. I think mice had also destroyed the speaker. I think the knobs, glass and other parts were good. I put it up there about 5 years ago to get it out of the way as it wasn't in any shape to fix. Last time I was up there was about a year ago,not much up there,a couple of doors,my 24 year old daughters power wheels and a few dry rotted boxes. If I get a chance I will look today.

Since you are starting out in acquiring some radios, You might want to invest in a reference such as this to be able to see the relative complexities of radios you may be considering. I don't have any interest in the sale of these, this is, though the best one I have found. It is a very handy reference library at a low price.

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
As far as Alforts question on buying it at 60 bucks if I had it to spare I would get it. You can always trade repairs for wood to repairs to a reciever. I have a fellow I fix stuff for and he brings me over a load of parts to "knock the bill down" with an item to be fixed. I usually just charge him the cost the parts I buy and thats it. Works out good for both of us.

Sorry to hijack your thread Bill.
Thanks to all for the inputs so far. I'm having trouble getting in touch with the seller.

Re: Zenith 11S474 Help!!!
I have an 11S474 I inherited. I would like to get it working again.
Looking for parts (front plastic knob, metal selector), manual, eventually someone who can help with repairs.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
