New guy on Board to ask lots.
I am new here, And am going to be making the attempt to repair a couple of tube radios.
My background is in Commercial HVAC industry, I am one of the best trouble shooters around and do all the wiring on both the low and high voltage controlls. Many of the times creating my own wiring diagrams since many controlls need to be intergrated into larger systems and the like.
Anyway,,,,
i will be needing help with the first capacators that will need replacements. And how to ID them properly.
I bought a helpful book that I am reading to get a better understanding.
Thanks all.
I will take lots of good pics to help.

Re: New guy on Board to ask lots.
Welcome to our forums.
We have an excellent beginner's section here to help learn basics.
Best to recap, including electrolytics before attempting to fire it up.
Manny paper capacitors have the writting on them in mf for microfarads, or, mmf for micro-microfarads.
The voltage is also listed on them.
There are some capacitors in a plastic body in some sets that have color stripes on them for the values. Those are also paper caps, and, should be replaced.
If you run into any of them, we can help you on how to read them.
Also, rubber power cords which are bad, and, if any rubber wirring, that may be trouble.

Re: New guy on Board to ask lots.
Thanks folks!
I will be getting into a set that is humming first.
As I read what you've written, There are lots of Caps to replace,
It looks like there are about 10-15 in there,
So all should be replaced???
It is going to be quite an adventure getting the first couple working again, And I am looking forward to the challange! ! !
Thanks

Re: New guy on Board to ask lots.
Welcome aboard. I was an electrician and did a fair amount of building automation. I still don't feel completely comfortable with tube circuits, but am learning from the best! It's really nice to know that when I get stuck, there are knowledgeable folks that are nice enough to take their time to help.
