ARF off line Again
ARF off line Again
Was on ARF this morning and got an error. Google say firewall on the Web was a culprit, not my firewall, as it was configured properly.
I wonder If some one hacked or Hijack ARF?

Re: ARF off line Again
Can someone please explain to me why the ARF site has so many problems. I really do like the site but it has gotten really silly. I know of no other site that has had the problems like this site. Maybe all the ARF people should leave there and join the TRF. Never seen any problems here

Re: ARF off line Again
I've got used to a double click, kind of like double shifting.
The first click pops up "Debug...", the second opens up the site like normal. Weird. I just followed a notification link that said- "topic no longer exists"
Hummm!

Re: ARF off line Again
Alan is just experiencing some problems since going to a new server. The "bugs" simply have to be worked out as they occur. He'll get it right.

This site hasn't been trouble free, either. Now, they have added advertising, and, when I complain about it, they simply delete my complaint.
I do what I can with this site.

What "new server"? I gather that you are somewhat new on ARF and don't know the history. The last "new" server that we donated to buy also involved a move from a personal server co-location site in SF to somewhere in Los Angeles. Physically sent in a box via UPS

The recent problem was that the co-lo site in LA busted Alan for over-usage. Basically they want more money. Alan hasn't said but it looks from all outward appearances like the ARF, if not the original server machine, is back in San Fran on the same buddy deal as before the move 2-3 years ago.
Alan isn't very forthcoming about the details and they probably change daily as he deals with it.
I wouldn't go windy about this other than that the mention of a "new server" just wrankles the folks who have contributed in good faith to keep the forum at top performance.

Try the companny that created the site. They are the ones who added the advertising. It's on their server. Yes, I own the forums.....

Actually, I was talking about my forums. Not Alan's.
I think I got an Adware virus from mine. Not Alan's.
That one ad has dissappeared, but, the ads are still up, and, they didn't used to be there.

Re: ARF off line Again
I don't see any ads. I'm using Firefox.
Oh wait...I'm getting a Vistaprint free business card ad on every site I go to since i stupidly clicked onto it.
Bill, if you are getting ads I'd strongly suspect that you are infected - especially so having read your story on ARF.

Re: ARF off line Again
The problem is I've had 3 different programs do a complete scan, and, found no infections, nor, adware.
The problem with my computer ended up not being infections, it was limiting me unless I was the main Administrator, so, I put it back on that, and, things came back.

If you're running FF, you might look at NoScript.
http://noscript.net/
I see no ads.
Also, you could modify your hosts file to prevent redirects and forced downloads from a long list of ad servers, and any other source of ads or scripts.
