One tube regen does not receive local station at 580 KHz
Hello,
I am new to this forum.
I recently built a one tube Armstrong regen from a kit. It is sold by Borden Radio Company, Radio Daze and another company whose name I forget. The tube is a 3S4 which will take up to 45 Volts DC on the plate. It works well with 22.5 Volts. I have tried two antennas. The first is a 40 foot "short" wire antenna in my apartment. The second is the aluminum window frame in my bedroom. Booth work equally well. The radio works without a ground.
I get the 3 local stations above 1000 KHz but cannot receive the 50 KW local station
at 580 KHz. Do any of you know what I could do to receive the 580 KHz station?
Thanks.
Robert

You might try replacing the caps, one at a time, and make sure the tunning cap has no shorts. If you can also test the tube. You may have used the wrong cap in your building it.

Look for cold solder joints or check the coil .. Sprman : )

you might ck the two bypass cap's on the RF chock to be sure they are not swaped or in the the wrong place. the one i built from scratch works great. will send u schematic if you need it!

Thanks for the advice pawpawhunt. About a year ago, I
got the solution from someone on another forum. It is to connect a cap (I forget the value) between the tuning cap and the chassis ground. It is connected with aligator clips (and insulated sleeving). It is disconnected to receive higher frequency stations.
A change in the number of turns on the coil might eliminate the need for the fixed cap. Lance Borden, who sells the kit, is aware of my thoughts on the subject.
