does the military still use transistor radios?
Not since the early 1980's. Nearly all radios are now software driven, reprogrammable secure systems. That is the same for airborne, shipbased or landmobile systems.

The military has used transistors since the late 60s, but not like consumer sets. There are still some but they are surplus and of not much use other than as boat anchors.
