Veneer questions
I just joined the site and in the welcome section I posted some questions about cabinet restorations.
Here's another - is keeping the original finish more important than strip/re-stain? I know if I had a nice piece of antique furniture I would never strip it. Have watched to many episodes of Antique Roadshow! But some of these radios I can afford (and pick because I can repair) are in a sorry sorry state.
I did pick up a Silvertone 1919 that is in pretty decent condition. No veneer problems and really not many dings or problems with the condition. Should I leave it as is?
Thanks!
Diana

Re: Veneer questions
That would depend on the condition of the finnish, and, your tastes. I leave original finnishes when cleanning, and, waxing will do the job.
But, if the finnish is too far gone, refinnishing is better than leaving it looking ratty.
Of course, make sure first that you can obtain replacements for any decals.

Re: Veneer questions
For veneer problems if it possible . You can get at a cabinet shop. If it is just blemishes ,and scratches get restorer finish . Can get in different shades . Take four 0000 steel wool with restore a finish buff works wonders.
Hides scratches ,and cleans years of dirt away. On the jack
what Bill says will work.
Oh and welcome.
