My Edison Fireside model A

Post by Bill Cahill on Wed Feb 24, 2010 11:30 pm

I also picked up the remains of this Edison Fireside phonograph a year ago at the Orlando antique phonograph show.
I managed to replace all, but, the repro lid, and, now have it playing. I still have to replace the worn 4 min. needle on the K reproducer, get a gear cover, get a new governor shaft, present one is bent, and, get an original lid for it. But, it is playing records. The crane is reproduction, but, the horn is original.
Here are some pictures of it.....

Machine is playing pretty good, and, I like it. I'll enjoy this one a long time....

Well, finally, I can report that I have worked out all the mechanical bugs. Gov. shaft was bent, and, badly worn, it ends up. Remember, I pieced this sucker together...
I replaced that. I thn had to re-make the drive belt. It fell apart.
Now, machine is playing flawlessly.
Still reproducer work to do.
I will be looking at another K reproducer that a collector friend has as an extra. If I buy it, I'll sell original one.
Right now, I have my best H on it.
Still looking for a lid, and, haven't finnished work on main case yet.
But, it's running smoothly, and, plays great!
Best fireside I've ever had......
I'll get more pictures later.

This morning I finally installed the new decal on the front of the case, and, am putting on several coats of orange shelac.
When dry, I will add new frubber feet, polish the case, and, put the machine back together.
I am waiting for parts to rebuild the model K reproducer. I ordered a new 4 min. needle, and, diaphram gaskets.
When it's back together, I will take final pictures of machine together, and, post a video on You Tube of it playing...
I'm quite pleased with the way it's turning out. I still have to get a lid for it, and, decals for the horn.....
The horn is original, but, not the best. Crane is a repro.
Anyway, I have replaced entire gov., and, done final adjustments. No flutter now, and, plays well on my good H reproducer.
