Electronics Background: Biomedical Equipment Repair - US army school USMEOS in Colorado - long time ago, 1979. Was in for one hitch. Met my wife, who also went to the same school!

Have a two year Associate Degree in electrical engineering technology from Penn State. Got a job at a electric power plant, and progressed to journeyman level instrument and control tech. Progressed via the Peter Principle, to my present position as a controls specialist - building boiler and turbine control logic (boring!).

I have aways been interested in radio and tubes ever since I went with my dad to the local corner 5 and dime to get the "tubes tested" from our old tv. I also tried to build a crystal radio, but failed (found out later you are not suppose to clean the laquer off the wire before winding it - for the tuning coil (?) It was a long time ago - I was about 8 or 9 ... or maybe 12 - memory is failing! I also bought a "pen" crystal radio and would listen for hours to the only radio station I could receive.

On a scale of 1 - 10 on tube radio knowledge, I would rate myself a 1.752.....only because I can read a schematic print, use a VOM, oscilloscope, and signal generator. I would mention that I can solder, but I failed the Navy's soldering course I took. In any event, if I need help soldering, my wife is an expert. I have built my own circuits and etched my own circuit boards in the past.

If you made it this far in this topic, I am sorry I wasted your time! I aquired, years ago, a RCA "Orthophonic" console with the SH-3 chassis/electronics. It has 11 tubes. At one time it worked, but I am afraid to plug it in now. I do have a full set of schematics and wiring diagrams for it though. My project is to restore it to working condition Smile
