Longwave

Anybody do any longwave listening in the summer? I have tried but I can't handle the noise levels. Looking for tips on how to get around it. The only thing that has come to mind is a Beverage antenna but I don't have room for one. I have a big old roll of wire and I thought about making a dxpedition up to the mountains (because its too bloody hot down on the plains) to try a Beverage.
