Philco 7o transformer

Post by music in a bottle on Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:37 pm

So I am pondering restoring my already working Philco 7o. Was wondering about the transformer, as I am aware that these can sometimes go bad. How can you tell if they are verging on scramming? Can they be rebuilt? Should I even be worrying? Smile

A transformer is essentially two coils of laminated wire. There is no way to tell if the transformer has been stressed unless there is any visual indication on or around the transformer itself.

It appears fine and makes no sound on power up. So don't worry about it?

As long as the electrolytics and other capacitors are replaced, a good rectifier is used along with the transformer still running cool after playing an hour or so, you have nothing to worry about.

It has been tested and works great, though hard getting stations. Restoration is coming I think this winter. Also have some other gear in line for restoration. How does one put pictures up on this site?

On here you have to use a picture hosting site like Photobucket to use to apply pictures. Others will be able to give you more detailed information on that.
