Dunno,

I set-up a a "top site" icon in "new tabs" so I come here at least once a day.

I used the address for "New Posts" so it is one click to navigate.

Funny, when Firefox changed to populating the "new Tab" I was reluctant to use it. Then it "automagically" dropped a url in that was frequent for me. Hey that's handy!

I have been busy with house stuff, that has taken me away from radio for many months. All I have been doing is contributing help online when I can. This and other radio forums. I have some outdoor projects but the heat since last week has been awful, can't spend more than 10 minutes and I'm dripping. Never liked the heat since a boy, now 71 kinda dangerous. Was up in the attic two nights ago replacing an attic fan thermostat, an essential to help air conditioning. It was 88 in the attic at 10:00pm and as much humidity too, but job done...

Stay cool,

Chas

At least part of the problem is members lack of interest in posting. This is disheatenning to the Administrators, and, others. Please start posting again.

I'll be posting more soon. Been busy with other projects and had to put the radios on the shelf for a while.

I haven't been here much lately for two reasons. The main reason is I am so busy these days. My mother in law passed away a couple of years ago so we had to deal with the estate for almost two years. The result of that was we got about 3 acres, a barn full of stuff and her dads Allis Chalmers C tractor. So since about March maybe I have been trying to get it to run and got it going just before the 4th. I have also spent a lot of time fixing up our place, fencing the new property and cleaning out the barn on the property.

The other reason is most of the time during the warm months I spend it fixing things around the house and doing outside stuff that needs to be done. Between driving to and from work, work itself and doing things around the house/place I am working between 70 to 90 hours a week. I hope to make a grape arbor, put lattice up on our front porch, make a rabbit hutch, make a chicken hutch all my August so I can start in on cleaning the barn out again. So far I have cleaned out around 150 bags of garbage I took to the dumpster after buying the land, mainly from the barn. I hope to have a yard sale to get rid of some of the stuff in the barn towards the end of August. Then I hope to be able to recoat the tin roofs on the barn and my outside workshop in the fall. After that I can then work on radios again. It makes me tired just thinking about it. But I do drop in from time to time.

I am guilty as charged here as far as postings go. Had some personal issues for a bit. Moving out of province for a year and a half, then moving back into the province. 3 years going through a divorce kinda kept me occupied.

Things are starting to get back to as close as normal as I figure they'll get, so I do hope to be posting again. Smile I have a bit to catch up on too I imagine.

I check in daily and nothing for three days. Over 300 unanswered posts going back for some time. The forum seems to be close to the end of life. I could be wrong!

Within the last month, the number of newly registered users is getting ready to hit 100 so i doubt the forum is dying. The unanswered post's that you speak of goes back to the forum's beginning and if you pick a few and read them, you will see why they went unanswered. About 85% of those unanswered post's are junk, nonsense or irrelevant to the forum's at hand. Yes, we are slow and sometimes dead but so are many other forums that i belong to. Social media outlets like Facebook for example have become the norm for discussing our hobbies and the forum platforms like TRF has become "old fashioned" to many members. We tried making the forum smartphone friendly but the app that was available for it sucked so it was abandoned. This time of year is slow for most forums and hope once summer is over things will pick back up. If the members of TRF don't soon start to participate and post, then we might consider pulling the plug at the beginning of the year. It's funny how the ones doing the complaining wont post either....

I belong to 6 forums. All are going through the summer slump as I like to call it.

My thoughts on any forum I belong to, is that while it's great to see activity, I prefer a quality vs. quantity type of group. This forum along with one other on radio is like this. It's more laid back, doesn't seem to have that class culture that another internet radio forum seems to have. Also, I kinda live nowhere. Population of a couple of thousand with no one interested in radio. You wanna see dead? Try the ham community here. These forums are like the get togethers that guys have in person to talk shop.

Social media is OK for me. But, to be honest, if it wasn't for a certain genealogy group I belong to, I seriously doubt I would be using it. I would certainly love it if I could get away from all that clutter I see on a Facebook page. Seems like only about a third of the page content is about what I want to see.

I admitted in a post above that I have been guilty of not posting. But now that things are getting back to what I hope is normal, I am going to try more.

I see what is involved in running a forum, and it can be quite an effort. It's a mixed blessing. You want lots of members and lots of activities, but, at the same time, a huge forum means needing a lot of people helping out. Moderators, etc.. Sometimes that can be overwhelming.

Bill has a great forum here, and has kept it going through slumps, health and who knows what other trials. There's that quality vs. quantity thing again. Smile Guess he's the only one that can make that decision, and I would respect whatever decision he makes.

End of ramble. Laughing Thanks Bill! Wink
