Model and schematic of this Philips tube radio

Post by yesilovethis on Thu Mar 22, 2018 8:02 pm

Hi All.

I  recently bough this Philips tube radio for 5 euro. The owner said it is dead but  it works.!! The only problem is huge hum in the audio. Googling says it is due to faulty filter cap. But which one how to know? There is many caps and one is huge in the middle of the attached pic (inside the metal tube) with 500 volts marks on it.!!
Could you please tell the model number ? It has all the knobs on the side of the panel. It has 4 main tube + 1 EM tube for tuning indication.

Here are the photos:

Cheers and Thanks.

The problem you are having is because the power supply filter capacitors are bad. This is, indeed, the tall metal can. The good thing is that new capacitors are very small. I would suggest the following:
Try the site Nostalgia Air for service info.
Buy a very good book by Alfred Corbin, "A Modern Look at Antique Radio Repair."
Go to the Antique Electronic Supply site. They are a very good source for parts and tubes.
Ask lots of questions. We love 'em.

And welcome to the world of radio repair. Your wife will probably hate us. Smile

Do you need tips on posting photos? It's not complicated, but it can be intimidating.
