Need help ID this Aviola

Post by lhlyda on Wed Mar 22, 2017 10:40 pm

Bought this today, so I dont have it in hand. Its similar to the 503, but the dial is not backwards and there is a bracket from the tuner to the speaker. The company has a very interesting history. The one I bought is in very rough shape but I think I can restore it. Any help with info, identification, schematics anything is appreciated.

Im leaning towards the 501, the 512 has a phono connection and pretty much the same circuit.

Im thinking on this one, I will

1) Divide the project in cabinet and chassis

2) take many photographs

3) As I dissassemble take measurements and make detailed drawings

4) compare the circuit to known schematics and make changes on the drawings and update.

Im going to need any input I can get.

I may very well document it with video.

I have only ever personally seen one radio with variable inductance, rather than variable capacitance tuning. I am interested in how you go along with this set. I hope you will post some photo's and narrate a bit as you proceed.

John,

Id be happy to. Never did a youtube video live, only made a powerpoint once. Ill try to do both, i want to get it up and running, but I need to be patient and document what I find. As far as I know, this may be the only survivor. I hope not, but sure would like to get more info. But not much out there on the web.

Looks like either a Philco, or an Airline. Airline used a lot of coil tuners.
