Zenith C730

Post by mario tabernig on Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:20 am

After a recap and selenium rectifier replacement is working. However, on fm only works in a narrow part of the dial. I play with the oscillator coil in the tuner plungers but I only shift the working portion to other parts of the dial. I am at a lost here. Then used other radio to tune a station properly on the dial but the high frequency stations of the fm band are not there and also the very low frequency stations of the fm band are not there eider. I am only getting a partial FM band.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi, I'm brand new here. While waiting for a reply to my post, I saw yours. I had a couple of these radios. I am a VERY limited novice at best! But may I ask, do you have the schematic? The schematic will show the alignment procedure. When you adjust the core slugs (plungers), are you only adjusting the top slug (secondary coil)? If you insert your adjusting tool a little deeper into the IF transformer can, you'll feel another slug (primary). I've attached the pdf. See the note at the bottom left; there are two slugs to adjust in each IF. Also the alignment procedure involves more than just tweaking the core slugs, as there are trimmers on the tuning capacitor as well.
