Bluetooth Speaker picking up FM radio stations

Post by tuberadiogeek on Thu Jul 14, 2016 9:14 pm

I recently bought a Abramtek M5-II bluetooth speaker from my friend. It originates from a Chinease seller on Amazon and is quite a boomy little speaker, but it only announciates in Chinease but that doesn't bother me. However what is a bit odd is when I change "modes" on it, it will pick up certain radio stations. I had it picking up 89.3 Yes FM which is a Toledo station with a Lima tower, 104.9 a local station but what is really odd, is it was picking up 91.3 WGTE Toledo Public radio which has to be coming straight from Toledo. Which Toledo is a good distance from where I live. The crazy thing is there is no tuner in the speaker, so it has to be interference of some type. However with Bluetooth being in the 2.4 GHZ range like WiFi, I don't see how it could be picking up signals from that low of a bandwidth. Is it just the fact that it's likely cheap electronics with poor shielding or something else? Can anyone shed some light on this?

How is that possible, and why doesn't my bluetooth headset do it then?

First off, Speakers likely have a computer in them. When you have a long wire, the signals are picked up by wires. Or, it could be, try this.
Connect a regular speaker to it. Turn on equipment. Does it still get those stations on a regular speaker? If so, the trouble is with your equipment.

I was just remembering something from my youth..
An Uncle gave me his old three tube portable record player he didn't want to fix. The cartridge was missing, and, I didn't know how to repair it. I was only 10 years old. Motor, and, amp still worked on that old Belmont. I actually was getting weak radio signals over it. One was cklw of Canada. Right on the other side of the Detroit River.
I think the other was wxyz radio in Detroit.
You cold be picking up the same kind of signal the same way.
