Something New At Work

Post by 75X11 on Wed May 18, 2016 6:35 pm

The salesmen were in today hawking their wares to the shirts here. They are considering adopting the E.F. Johnson VP600 as our next portable radio. They are cheaper than Motorolas' offerings and the ones I have talked to are bent toward getting them. It looks the same size and layout as a XTS 5000 and lighter in weight with a battery resembling a HT1000's with the 3 contact points. It's been a number of years since I have seen any of Johnson's offerings. I really want to see the service info and how they are constructed. It'll be interesting to see how the Motorola S&S responds.

For what it is worth, I still have my grandpa's old "white face" six-channel Johnson CB radio out in the shop. It has like 18 tubes in it and will run a big Buick battery down to nothing in about an hour if the engine is not running. Johnson was the only CB grandpa would own. That old CB radio has not been run in probably 40 years, but I'll bet it still works.

I wouldn't be surprised.
