Craigslist can be a pain

Post by Wildcat445 on Sat Mar 26, 2016 6:47 pm

I am interested in three items on CL and cannot get any of the three sellers to respond to my inquiries. I am losing my touch. Rolling Eyes

I think it might be the holiday weekend. Things are disconnecting around here too.

I got one person to respond. They had an Astro-Sonic stereo theater. Bummer.

That's a tall order. It'll take some time.

Maybe. I guess I have time. I need it to finish out my collection. After I find one, I'm done. I'll tinker with what I have and not add to my collection any more.

To be fair, finding a Stereo Theater should technically be easier than finding a Concert Grand. There are 6 models in the "400" series that I have listed. Then there is the "300" series, with the same stereo components such as tuner and amp, but with smaller/different speakers and a 24" TV set. Basically the same cabinets and finishes. The 1962 300 series had remote control as an option. 1MV or MR 387, -391, -395 are some of the model numbers. This gives a total of about 12 models to find versus only two for the Concert Grand stereos. They sure have proven elusive, but I'm sure they are around. I just need to flush one out. The more eyes looking the better.

Only thing about a unit like that is most people weren't going to keep an older television that long and that would be a millstone that would sink the whole unit into the dump. I'll bet attrition hasn't been good to the total production of those. I'm sure someone has 1 or 2 of them hid somewhere.

Cost new may be their salvation, I think.  Those things cost just north of $1000 when they were new, more than a CG.  The big ones are housed in gorgeous cabinetry.  I believe that the old technology, black and white TV sets make them not worth a lot of money.  The radio tuners and amps are essentially at the "little Imperial" level, two notches down from the Concert Grand.  We'll have to wait and see what happens.  I have only been at this, seriously, for a couple months.  It took me almost a year to find my CG.  I have found two antique white 400 series instruments, they were on the east coast and they wanted too much money for them.  Astro-Sonic models and the smaller 100 and 200 series tube models are fairly plentiful.  All I can do is to try. The big Stereo Theaters are so impressive and well-built that I felt my collection was not complete without one.
