Amateur Radio License

Post by Guest on Wed Jan 27, 2016 10:49 pm

I decided to take the test for my Amateur Radio license. I passed and I'm now waiting on the FCC for my call sign.

How many other here have an Amateur Radio license?

My grandpa did, but I never have. CB was my thing, back in my trucking days.

I plan to go for the extra at some point, but I need to pass the general first.

Good luck with your progress. I have a general radiotelephone operators license. I would imagine the ARRL is still in business. That could be a good networking start.

The ARRL is still in force in Newington Connecticut and we have a club which they recognize;

I want to get mine, but I want to at least find a decent radio first. Probably a 2 meter to start. It is just a bit difficult for me to do the test since my local club only does testing during hamfest, so I'd likely do it online. I'd likely just stick to tech class and likely stay on 2 and 10 meters.

General Electric MVS radios are all over ebay and are very cheap. We program in the local repeater freqs and have them ready for new members.

General Class-  KD8OZK
I have it on my list for this year to upgrade to Extra.  Not sure if I will have the time to study/prepare for the test though...

I was a novice- KN4OZH. I had a Johnson Viking transmitter and an Army BC-312 receiver. I've thought about getting a new license. I still have photos of my old HAM shack.
