Time to retire/need advice

Post by willy3486 on Thu Jan 14, 2016 2:42 pm

Does anyone know of a good place to get one of these steel buildings? The ones they set up for you. I am thinking of a small one, maybe one 60x100. I also am thinking of getting about 100 acres to move to, in the middle of no where in TN. I just have decided why work anymore. I think I will try to fill of the new building mentioned above with jukeboxes and radios.

There are different builders in the different regions of the country. I would check the yellow pages and find some nearby firms, then ask around at the bigbox stores about what kind of a job they do. I think Morton is a national name, but I don't know how they are price wise.

No one is getting at what I am talking about? What do FL,CA and Tennessee have in common this week? Very Happy  Seriously I figured someone would have caught on and said something, I was wondering what folks thought about the powerball lottery.I don't buy lottery tickets. If I did and had won the jackpot, I heard after taxes a single payout would be about 180 million each. I know what I would do, I would buy the land behind me , then build a fence in front of my house. Then I would move my driveway down the road and put up a electric gate so you had to open it with a code. Then I would by myself a new vehicle, maybe a new CRV or Liberty. I would buy my daughter a new car. I would pay off her loans. Then the rest would go into a trust fund then I would live off the dividends. I probably would spend my time working on tube stuff and voulenter at a couple of schools as I know I would get bored. I would give some to charity.

My daughter was talking about one of her friends. That friend she has is friends with the lady who won in Fl. She called my daughters friend here in Tennessee to talk to her husband who is a financial councilor. She wants to pay her house off, set up a trust fund for her kids and family members. She also wants to live off the interest and not blow the money. I am glad to see someone like that gets it. Anyway if you had won what would you buy.

There is a hedge-fund dude who has his home in Paradise Valley for sale for $35 million.  It has like 16,000 square feet in the main house, with 8 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.  (This will come in handy on house cleaning day!).  It has an 18 car garage, "domestic specialist" quarters and a 3600 square foot guest house.  This sits on 5 acres with a gate and a guard.  My name would be on the gate if I won the lottery.  I would buy the wife a new Denali, me a Bentley.  I would give St. Jude's children's hospital a couple hundred million.  Then I would buy controlling interest in Walmart and fire about half their management staff.  I would try to match my last dollar to my last breath.  I can't take it with me.

It would've taken a lot less money to satisfy me. I would just like a comfortable retirement.

This is what I hope for. I told my wife the other day that three days after I retire she will probably be burying me. Seriously though I would love to quit work then open me up a shop. When I retire if I am able that is my plans. I worked hard to get everything paid off so hopefully all I have to worry in the way of bills is food and the usual monthly bills. When I was younger I wanted a Ferrari. Now I am just happy with a car that will start and go.

With age comes wisdom. That enables you to know what the important things are. Youth tells you the cool things. Very Happy

The question was what would I do if I won the lottery. The idea of winning is fantasy, so why not dream big?

I'm not sure I know what a "comfortable retirement" is. You can plan until your dying day and still life can throw a curveball. I've decided to live day to day. That seems less complicated for me. I don't believe it matters if you have millions or hundreds saved. It won't be enough. I've also found that "semi-retirement" is the best fit for me. Full retirement did not work out well. I work part-time and that works best.
