Glen Campbell collection

Post by Wildcat445 on Sat Jul 18, 2015 7:26 pm

I have a friend in the flooring business who brought me a stack of records. He got the records from a customer who was going to toss them. There must be thirty records in the stack. Mostly Glen Campbell. I'm not going to claim that I now have every Glen Campbell record ever made, but I have lots more than I had, which was none. You see, I really do not care for Glen Campbell's music. The wife has suggested that I clean some of these records up and give Glen the benefit of the doubt. Surely not all of his material is horrible. I admit to having gotten tired of hearing "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" and "Wichita Lineman." Obviously, he recorded lots of other material. I see an album that is a tribute to Hank Williams. I'll see what I can find and keep you posted.

My tastes run more toward instrumental than vocal. There are a very few exceptions. The late Mr. Campbell recorded some of them.

The "late Mr. Campbell"? I was not aware that he had passed.

I have a record titled "The Astounding 12-String Guitar Of Glen Campbell". Roy Clark plays banjo on the album. Perhaps this is one that you are referring to.

Another record in the stack "I Remember Hank Williams", from 1973 is quite good. This collection is on Capitol records. Not the best label ever, in my opinion. Capitol typically suffered from lots of surface noise, and these are no exception. These particular records are not in very good condition on top of that. The cardboard covers are in bad shape, like they have been stored in a shed. They appear to have been played on a changer, as the labels in the center are badly worn. I can process them to digital and put them on CD, and they will sound like new. I'm happy to have them.

You should hear Hank Williams on MGM 78's.
Or, Frank Sinatra. Or, Jimmy Dean., or, The Beach boys, or, Al Martino, or, The Lettermen, especially my one prized album by them, "You'll never walk alone".

And, if you are into cool Jazz, and, popular hits, try Satchmo Louis Armstrong. And, so many others.....

My collection is pretty light on Louis Armstrong, I'll admit. The others you mentioned I have. I'm not a huge Lettermen fan.

Not really. I'm more of a Dinah Washington fan.
