Volunteer strawberry plant

Post by Wildcat445 on Tue May 19, 2015 1:58 pm

My wife bought a "knock-out" rose a couple years ago from a local nursery. In the pot was a volunteer strawberry plant. A little tiny thing with only a couple leaves. She did not have the heart to pull the little strawberry plant out and toss it, so she just left it for nature to take its course. That one, tiny little volunteer strawberry plant has now multiplied until it takes up almost half of her flower bed. It is some type of ever-bearing strawberry and prolificly produces until it gets hot and dry in July. I just picked a gallon this morning. We have strawberries in the garden, but these produce more than the ones in the garden. They are not as big as the garden ones, but they sure taste good. Strawberry shortcake and vanilla ice cream. Yum, yum! Very Happy

I have teeny weeny strawberry plants around the house. The fruits are little puffs smaller than a dime. I don't even know if they are edible.

Most people put sugar on their strawberries. My wife puts chicken poop on these. In the flower bed, naturally. I just had a bowl of strawberries for breakfast. You want pictures of the strawberries in the patch or in shortcake? The frau has not made shortcake yet.

I'll wait until they get loaded with berries again then take a picture. It is rainy here the last couple days, so we should have a ton when the sun comes out again.
