Bought a model D upper mechanism off ebay this morning from a known dealer. Originally, he wanted too much for it, and, he eventually dropped it by thirty three bucks. I took a chance for that.
It's frozen in it's bearing, but, bearing is also broken. It shouldn't be too hard to remove to put on my machine. My bed plate is in much better shape.

More good news.... This week I bid on, and, won an exact replacement lid for it. It's on it's way by snail mail. Might arrive next Thursday. I've replaced chipped lower pulley, half nut, and, bar, which were worn out, bronze bearing, which did a little good, and, an original rusty Edison crank. Repairs are slowly coming along...
It will be a nice machine when finished. The lid is in fine condition, and, the tiger oak grain matches the tiger oak grain on the case. The motor runs quietly, and, the pin striping is excellent.

All the Edison machines had two colors of pin striping decals after 1908. The early model D machines in 1908 had hand painted double gold.

Here is a side view of my Edison Standard model B combination player. I added the original horn, and, crane. Would you believe that fifteen years ago it was a rust bucket???

That instrument appears to be a Newcomb TR-16 or 16A. I have one. The best 78 rpm player ever. My turntable is wonky. The flocking on that one is brown, while mine is gray. New toy? Does it have a GE VR cartridge?

I've had my Newcomb TR-16 for several years. It is equipped with a GE Magnetic cartridge with turn over needles able to play stereo records. The stand is much newer..... It plays wonderfully! It's totally electrically rebuilt....
I also own a TR-25A four speed player with a GE Magnetic cartridge.
Two speakers with that one.. Puts out twenty five watts. The one pictured here is a two speed which puts out ten watts. This one was made in 1947. My grade school had two of this model machine on two beautiful roll carts, which I haven't been able to find one....

My Newcomb is a 16A, four speed. My dad bought it new in 1953. I only have the one speaker. I need a new turntable for mine. I also need to go thru it, as it is original as far as I know. I have owned it for over 40 years and have never done anything to it. They are good players, no doubt.

I'll gladly take it off your hands. The sound on these is phenominel.
I totally rebuilt almost every phonograph I own. Most were parts in a box. The standard was original two minuite. No lid. The dealer that sold it to me said a woman brought it to his shop. She rescued it from her husband, who found it in the barn, and, was smashing it up.
I left the broken handle on crank, and, one severely bent latch to show machine's history. It's still playing on the original one hundred year old leather belt.
The fireside started as a repainted nearly empty bed plate in an incorrect non professional case with picture frame molding. The case it is now in is an original Edison.
I'm proud of my small collection.

I could never get rid of mine, since it was my dad's and since I played it many an hour while he called square dances. I would like to find a new platter for it. Surely someone has parted one of these out. This one has played Cliffie Stone records by the hour many a night.

Lid arrived yesterday. It's a perfect match to the case. It even fit perfectly on the first try. Machine now has a good original replacement lid with the paper label inside.

Well, if all goes well, tomorrow I'm getting an "O" reproducer for my model B Home phonograph with the cygnet horn, and, therefore, will free up my C, and, H reproducers, which will then go with the model D Home, saving me money, in the long run, on buying parts for it. This will upgrade my model B Home, also, which I've been wanting to do for many a year. The one I'm getting will be nice. It's not the later pot metal one. It's the earlier all steel "O" reproducer in very excellent shape with perfect needles, and, plays wonderfully. I saw, and, heard that reproducer three years ago.. It was being held for me....
Still have other repairs to do on the D, but, it's slowly coming along.
Smile

Well, I now officially have a Steel body "O" reproducer on my model B Edison Home. Installation was Thursday morning............. It sounds GREAT!!
This, of course, now frees up my C two min., and, H four min. reproducers for my model D Home. That's two less parts I have to buy for it, and, I upgraded my model B Home. I'm a happy camper........... Very Happy

Re: I won a new toy!!

As a side note, that morning, I dragged out my two min. Edison Home model B phonograph which I never finished. I tried it, and, to my surprise, it played well...
I was having major fluttering problems with it the last time I tried it.
I restored this machine years ago. I had to refinish it. Original banner decal was beyond hope. I could only get a water banner decal for it. In their original looks, they are the wrong color, and, look all wrong. I added stain color to it after installing it. It now looks antique gold like original. It looks exactly like a mint original, and, I'm very happy with it.
I bought that machine from a friend who since died about ten years ago........ I need to get a horn for it.
Model D home, I now have a crane for it, but, I'm missing the foot, and, top bracket, and, of course, the horn........

Spoke too soon. It was fluttering last night.
My "O" reproducer in my combination 2, 4 min. Edison Home with a number 10 cygnet horn is playing beautifully, but, I'm having motor troubles with it. Needs more repairs.

I'm getting back my Edison model A Standard! I was able to cough up the money to buy it back from John Folsom. Today he called me to inform me it has been shipped. Priority mail. I should receive the three boxes no later than this Saturday.
I now own 8 playing cylinder players.
I also own, and, thanks to you guys, have repaired my original Edison model A 150 diamond disc player I bought as a playing junker as a teen ager.

God's been good to me.

Re: I won a new toy!!

It rained Friday, and, they left me a receipt to pick up packages. I had to call post office. Had a lot of trouble doing that... Saturday, they brought over two boxes with the machine, but, third box containing the horn is missing.
If it doesn't come today, I'll have to put a tracer on it.

Cabinet, and, cylinders, and, winding crank survived. Main machine the spring that holds up the arm for adjusting the governor had popped off. I had to really look to find it....
Motor is very noisy.
Pin striping is nearly perfect.
Machine is dry, and, rubber feet are shot.
Lid needs touching up....
No shaving knife. Not as good as I had thought, but, still good.
Crank has some minor paint wear.
Finnish on main case is nearly perfect, and, decal is perfect.
Black paint on bed plate is nearly perfect, and, nickel plating is excellent.
Reproducer works well, but, needs new gaskets for the diaphragm....
It has a C reproducer....
