Cheapie Silvertone oak table model I just bought myself

Post by Bill Cahill on Sat May 02, 2015 10:31 am

I just bought myself an early birthday present yesterday. It's a small oak table model Silvertone wind up gramophone.
I'll get pictures as soon as I can.
I am already certain the reproducer isn't original, but, it appears the tone arm is, though it looks like it's from a portable. The foot print matches the board perfectly, holes included, and, the ring on the board matches the base on the arm. The arm, and, reproducer are heavy pot metal. But, the reproducer has what's left of fire engine red paint on it, and, is pop riveted together, making me think it's from some sort of child's machine.
The motor is a very cheap single horizontal spring motor. The speed control is on the side of the case just in front of the winding crank.

The adjustment screw is very long to reach the small motor. The grill work on front is just cigar cutouts. There is cheap grill cloth behind it.
The cabinet is the horn.

There is a small metal tag tacked to the side of the case next to the speed control. Can anybody help me identify this machine that is so cheap it's cute??
I intend to fix it....

In three days, you and I will be the same age. Happy birthday three days early, in case I forget "Cinco de Mayo." That is not likely, since that is also my frau's birthday. And my late uncle's birthday. Have fun with your new toy! Very Happy

Well, about a month ago I found a Silvertone reproducer on ebay to get it to make noise. Yesterday, I totally dismantled machine, and, thoroughly cleaned, and, re lubed the motor. It was extremely gummy.. It now plays up to 1.5 10" records on a winding. I also started stripping the case. I'll show pictures when finished.....
