One more!

Re: One more!
Arthur Godfrey's material is hard to find, outside of those British remade CD's. He was the hottest thing going right after WW2, but his records are scarce as hen's teeth. Once in awhile you will come across a copy of "Too Fat Polka", but that is about it. I like his material, but I would not have wanted to work for him. He was a fairly cocky guy, certainly, and shot himself in the foot acting like a jerk. I have never been convinced that Julius LeRosa had totally clean hands in that situation, either.

Re: One more!
Do any of you guys remember Ted Weems? His main claim to fame was making his music sound older than it was. One of his more famous recordings was "Whispering." Do any of you remember his specialty?

If you like listening to any old big band material, this program always has a couple of programs on the site to listen to, or live stream.

You are right. I should have written that a specialty of the Ted Weems organization was whistling. Thank you for that clarification. I'm impressed. Sincerely.

Does anybody remember Pee Wee Hunt?

This is allegedly the "12th Street Rag." It is on a 78 played on a modern turntable. I have this song on a stereo record.

Re: One more!
Here is a band that folks seldom consider much anymore. I think it is pretty good. It gets a good deal of play on "The Desoto Hour" down here on the weekend.

Re: One more!
I am not familiar with Ozzie Nelson's band. They are really good. One of the trumpet players was Billy May. Thanks, 75. Why can't we have good music like that around here?

Re: One more!
Bunny Berrigan "I Can't Get Started." One of my favorite big band numbers. The only other person who could play this song pitched like this original was Al Hirt.

This is one of the best 78 rpm versions I have ever heard. My mom had this record and I wore it white.

Re: One more!
How about Perez Prado and Rosie Clooney? Actually, I much prefer "Bali Hai", but this one will do.

Rosie had quite the set of pipes.

This record has been played at many a barn dance. This is the 1949 version on King.

The Patsy Cline "Nashville Sound" version, in stereo, some 12 or 14 years later.

Homer Haynes and Jethro Burns aka Homer and Jethro. "At The Country Club" on RCA from 1960. Some of their best work.
