Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
Or there are going to be a lot of trees here with their buds froze off. It's 72 degrees out and overcast. Mr. cat can't get any of his favorite anti flea and mite dirt together to put on himself. The dandelions, violets and robins are out, though.

Glad there is relief in sight, you "right" coast people have suffered enough.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
I for one will miss the cooler weather. The two weeks of spring that we have here mean that summer is knocking on the door. For those of you that have never experienced a Georgia summer, it's like being in a sauna 24/7 for about half of the year. It usually hits triple digits in July with 90% humidity. "Hot enough to fry an egg" doesn't cover it. I have literally seen water boil on the road.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
I guess every area on earth has their tough periods. The trick is to either find those we can live with, or find the place with the fewest. I did like living out west, though. I liked the summers in Michigan and Indiana when I was little. I almost lived in the water.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
Motorola Man, sounds like winter suck as does summers. There really are places in the US that are comfortable year round. You just have to pick the temperature range you like as well as humidity. Throw in bugs as well.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
I am really getting tired of all the pretty weather. I guess I'll head for the Midwest where the temperature and the humidity is around 90. And the skeeters. There are no skeeters here, and I miss those little buggers.

Right WC. Heading back to northern AZ on Friday for a few weeks. Then back to So. CA.
No real bugs to speak of at either location. If you don't count the no see ums and scorpions in AZ.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
For you folks that might be minding the heat, come up here to Prince Edward Island. We got hit with another major storm yesterday and it's hanging over today as well. Since yesterday, the Trans Canada Highway and most secondary roads from the central part of the Island towards the West, are listed as Closed/Impassable. Dunno when we'll get plowed out yet.
Best news too, is that the weather folks are watching another front coming this weekend too. Thank heavens Spring is next week, then all this stuff will be melted. That's how it works isn't it?

I reckon that falls under the category of great expectations. Hope you do get some acceptable weather soon.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
Jerry....... I haven't lived here all that long, but my friend here says that the tourists usually arrive around mid to end of June and are pretty much all gone by the end of August. Kinda strange since I was here last Fall and though a number of attractions were closed, it's still a beautiful area to see.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
Oh, and as per your questions....... the summer weather is great, though there are days with brisk winds. As for bugs, unless you are near any wooded areas, they haven't been an issue for me so far.

Some people. St. Petersburg was built around bugs. Ever seen a Palmetto bug. Really scary. It's a cockroach with wings. Very large, and, not afraid of you, either.

The good old red wasps are droning around now. They used to love my green Ranchero. Now my yellow Mustang comes in second place with them.

We have Africanized wasps around here. They have a yellow body, kind of like a yellow jacket. They are fairly nasty critters. The bug man got the ones around here.

Our little cactus are blooming. The bouganvilla is blooming. The frau's "posies" are blooming. My baby fan palm is not a baby anymore. My Walmart cactus is blooming for the first time in three years. I bought it blooming in the store, but it has taken three years to bloom here.

Re: Looks Like Spring Is Around The Corner
All three of those little cactus are barrel cactus of different breeds. These were domestically produced. The ones you kipe out of the desert grow best, can't kill them, but it is at least semi-illegal (depending on to whom you speak) to get them out of the desert. Like wild honeysuckle in MO. I had some hitch a ride on the edge of my tractor blade one time, now it has taken over the fence in our backyard. If a "possum cop" catches you cutting widlflowers out here, you might get a ticket. I have not heard of anybody getting in big trouble for transplanting desert cactus, but they will nab you big time if you are caught destroying a cactus. And they should. There are not many flowers prettier than a cactus flower.
That little fan palm was grown from a seed by a friend of ours. She started it in a coffee can, and I got it three years later in a gallon pot. I planted it last year and it is growing like a weed. I have always wanted one. You don't have to skin them like other palm trees and they do not make so much of a mess.
The tall skinny one is the Walmart cactus. I have no idea what it is called, so I call it the Walmart cactus. It was damaged and they were going to toss it. It is a $50 cactus that I got for really cheap. The frau trimmed it and nursed it back to health. It is tall and skinny and rather unusual.
Ginger, the "horizontally challenged" Golden Retriever is guarding the cat cage in case Percy should show his nose in there. She gives him a little "woof" and he goes back into the house.

Give me time. I'll see what I can do. Guess I put my big foot in my big mouth again.. I have the plants. Don't worry about that. I'll have to get the time....
