Louis Armstrong

I know a lot of you hear really are into music, some into stuff I'm probably not interested in but all is fine. This link to one of the best lyrics and a unique voice that I really enjoy. I hope some of you do as well. It brings tears to my eyes!

A man of many talents and one that had something for nearly everyone to like. Just one of the reasons to praise recorded music, for in that way he is still with us.

One of the all-time best for sure. That is one of my favorite songs. Thanks for sharing.

Here is some trivia if I remember correctly. Billie Holiday was trying to pattern her singing voice after Lois Armstrong. There is a singer today called Ingrid Lucia who is from New Orleans. I saw her one time in a interview and the interviewer asked her about the similarity of her singing and Billie Holiday. She asked if it was intentional. She told the interviewer that she wasn't trying to copy Billie but was trying to get a sound similar to Lois Armstrong but in a womans voice. She said that Billie Holiday has also said she patterned her voice after Armstrongs and that was probably why her and Billies singing were similar. Here is a video of Ingrids. She sounds like Billie to me as well. So I guess she sounds like Armstrong as well, but as a woman.

Sadly, I don't have that record, which still gives me a lot of feeling, but, I have some of his records, including an earlier one called "Hello, Dolly!", and, some of his 78 rpm records from the 30's.
He was also an expert trombone player as well.
He did a lot of early Jazz recordings, and, he's one of the early artists who made Jazz for all to hear....
I'm not usually a big jazz fan, but, he's one of the exceptions to the rule. Thanks for sharing this.

Another instrumentalist that made a great vocalist was Nat King Cole.

Yes. I also have a number of his records. They seem to be more common.

I did not know that Armstrong ever recorded "When You're Smiling." Great material.

Brooke Benton was a cut-rate Nat King Cole. I like his singing. Smooth as butter. Did you guys realize that Nat King Cole recorded a country album in 1963? I only have bits and pieces of Louis Armstrong. Maybe I need to get more serious about his material. Fats Domino put some pretty good stuff out, if you looked hard enough.

Another artist whose material is hard to find. Jimmy Durante. A fantastic piano player.

I know Durante made an LP in the late '50s that was primarily vocals. Hugh Hewitt plays "Make Someone Happy" from it on his program during the week.

We don't get Hugh Hewitt out here. We get it on Bugtussle AM back home, but not out here in Major Market USA.
