Surprise, surprise, that was Glenn miller and his full orchestra, no stand ins. That recording was a soundtrack done by the band in 1941 for their film Sun Valley Serenade. The man on the piano was J. Chalmers (Chummy) MacGregor, who Harry Morgan played in the 1954 movie The Glenn Miller Story. 20th Century Fox records released the stereo soundtrack recordings on lp in the late '50s after the later bio pic did so well.

I was gonna guess a famous actor. No wonder I had it on the tip of my tongue, huh? I have a Glenn Miller record, re-issued on RCA who knows when. It is reprocessed half-ass stereo. It would sound better in mono. That was the ONE drawback to big band music. Nearly all of it was in mono. And done direct to disc, with no tape masters. If it had only been ten or fifteen years later.......Thanks, 75.

Another good, almost "hyper stereo" record is "Connie Francis Sings" on MGM circa 1962. Not really hyper stereo, but nice separation and realism. And, of course, Connie Francis herself. Tailor-made for a "Great Voice" stereo. "Dreamboat", "When The Boy In Your Heart (Is The Boy In Your Arms)", "Baby's First Christmas" are probably the high spots, but there is nary a bad note, typical of Connie Francis.

Another trivia question, 75. Who played Benny Goodman on "The Benny Goodman Story?" I am gonna guess Jimmy Stewart, but I could be wrong.

And another comment about research. Google is your friend is an accurate quote, but part of my intention in posting this is to get people talking. If I ask questions, others can contribute. If I do the research, I do it alone.

I've seen most of the biopics, Steve Allen played Benny Goodman, Danny Kaye played Red Nichols, The Dorsey brothers played themselves in The Fabulous Dorseys, Sal Mineo played Gene Krupa, Tyrone Power played Eddy Duchin. Google is the store where we can get the things to bring to this pot luck.

I don't trust Google. They put Google chrome into your computer, and, it takes over your entire system...... I heard it said they do hidden work paid for. In any case. I don't trust Google...

Steve Allen it was. I remember that now. Why am I so unlearned about those movies? That seems incongruous, given my interest in trivia. Okay, then, what bandleader, if any, did Jimmy Stewart play? I seem to remember him holding a musical instrument in a movie.

A trombone. He played Glenn Miller. June Allyson played Helen Miller.
