Seems to me Alan should just plug the old server back in while he plays with it's replacement. That's what he's doing, right. His words... "import the backed up data into the batabase on the new server."

All we have to do is get all the people that were at the ARF site over here. It sure seems like this site is operating just fine without any problems. Also it sure is easier to post a picture

He currently has a copy of the backup from a week or so ago waiting for restore. If he brings the old server back online, new content would be added and would invalidate the backup he already has. Thus, causing him to have to make another backup.

That's a damn shame. There is a lot of historical stuff in ARF. I sure hope Alan can restore the data, assuming corrupt means the O.S.

Sort of leads me off topic:

How is the TRF system managed and archived? What prevents, or doesn't the system from crashing and data be lost forever?

Best,

The question was aqsked, and, never answere what , if any type of archive protection was on TRF to protect data.
Well, I know for a fact that the owners in France do have a back-jp system, and, crashes are rare. The two crashes we had, all data was returned when brought back on line.

I can get to the forums now, and, go to the list, but, when I try to click on a subject that says Oops! It appears this page is broken. Then, when I try to go backwayrds, I get a sign that reads you are forbidden to enter this subject. Click one more time, I can go back to the list. Yep. It's still down.

Here is my question . If all the people at ARF came over to this site would it crash as often as ARF does? I really thought they had there problems repaired. It has been a few years. Maybe they just fixed them and not repaired them?

I have been on a couple of other sites that had problems like those seen on ARF, and they had to make so many changes in the site to correct the problems that they only have the names of each forum that were still the same from the original. Everything else changed. That was easy to put up with, though as the sites became reliable and easy to use. Also in each case, funding was solicited to make the changes. It depends on if you like the site and its' contributors. And the powers that be must be ready to make the commitment.

Welcome to TRF, Mike. Post often.
The owners of the site have back ups if anything goes wrong here.
So far, we've had very little problem here.

My guess for this happening;

Most likely their host hasn't set up MySQL properly and has a too low value for max connections.

It is beginning to remind me of my brother in law. Lots of grumbling, fussing,grouchiness and it is working about as much as he does.
