Christmas Radio

Post by Doug Burskey on Tue Dec 23, 2014 9:38 pm

A guy I used to work with told me a story of a Hopalong Cassidy radio he got for Christmas in the 1950's from a wealthy aunt. Next to getting a Hopalong Cassidy bike that was next best gift for a kid that was a Hoppy fan. Once his dad found out that was a real radio he confiscated it and said Mom needed a kitchen radio so she can listen to Don Mc Neill Breakfast club and I can listen to the morning news. After all that's too good of a radio to waste on a kid. By the mid 1960 it was replaced by a transistor portable, and Dad used it for a workshop radio out in the garage, and the last I seen of it was covered in dirt, sawdust and paint spadders.

Hopalong Cassidy was one of my favorites! My Uncle Lou gave me a Hopalong Cassidy outfit complete with boots, hat, 2 guns and holsters. I didn't know there was a radio!
